Natan Alterman (1910-1970) Poet, playwright, writer and translator. One of the greatest pioneers of modern Hebrew poetry. Born in Warsaw and studied at the Hebrew Gymnasium in Chisinau, where he began publishing poems in the Gymnasium newspaper. At the age of 15, he immigrated to Israel with his family who settled in Tel Aviv, continued his studies at the Herzliya Gymnasium and then traveled to France to study agronomy. In 1932, he began publishing his poems in local newspapers and working as a journalist. In 1933 He joined the group of poets "Yachdav" who rebelled against the literary establishment. In 1943 he began writing the "Hatur Hashvi'i" section of the "Davar" newspaper which was published continuously until 1967. The song "Magash HaKesef" is one of its most famous passages. Alterman published hundreds of works, songs and plays which are Inalienable assets of the Israeli culture. For all his work, he won the Israel Prize for Literature in 1968.
